Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane
Named after the famous WW11 fighter plane, the introduction of the Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane was announced in May 1945. The Hurricane is a coachbuilt four/five seat drop head coupe (convertible), with a three position hood, leather upholstery, and walnut dashboard and trim. It is reminiscent of a bygone era, and adds romance and style with a touch of nostalgia to any journey. The once famous Sphinx mascot, proudly mounted at the front of the bonnet, was regarded with the same respect accorded to the red triangle of Alvis, the scripted D of Daimler, and the leaping cat of Jaguar. It is believed that there are less than 50 examples of this model currently on the road.
'Tumtumtiddly' is in first class condition, finished in black over ivory. She is fully insured for chauffeur driven hire and available for bookings in much of Oxfordshire, parts of Buckinghamshire and south Northamptonshire throughout the spring, summer, and early autumn. The hood can be raised and lowered and, provided the weather is fine, you may choose to have the hood down or 'coupe de ville' (half up). As you can see from the picture gallery, she is very photogenic for all those photographs that will remind you of your special day in the years to come. She has been variously described as a 'Gatsby Car' or a 'Cruella de Ville Car' but I think of her simply as 'Tumtumtiddly'!
Tumtumtiddly offers the flamboyance of a period drop head coupe, a rare and stylish models from one of England's truly great motor car manufacturers, from an era when England offered motor cars to rival any in the world.
Your special day should be free of any unnecessary stress or anxiety. Realising this it is our objective in terms of planning and preparation to ensure that your journey is without worry or concern, a period of relaxation and enjoyment. The full route from the first collection point onwards is driven two or three days before the event to make note of any road works and other possible detours and obstructions and to ensure we know the route perfectly. We only accept one booking per day per car and always allow plenty of time for all those photographs!! Each car carries a 'wedding survival kit' consisting of a bottle of drinking water, needle, thread and safety pins, tissues and facewipes, mobile phone and umbrellas.
Both car and chauffeur will be impeccably turned out for the day, the car in gleaming paintwork and the chauffeur in a dark suit. Unless otherwise requested the traditional white satin ribbons will be attached for wedding and partnership celebrations. This tradition is believed to have developed from the custom in centuries past when the reins of the carriage horses drawing the bridal carriage were covered in white satin sleeves. Increasingly couples are choosing ribbon colours other than white. Also available at no extra cost are ivory, burgundy or pink. Should you require a particular colour to tie in with a theme, please let me know and given a little notice I will be delighted to have your own ribbon made up to match your colour theme. Make your journey into part of the occasion and travelling an experience to be relished.
It is important to remember that progress in a motorcar of sixty years of age is best described as 'stately', so do please allow plenty of time to enjoy your journey.
Please contact me to discuss any particular requirements, wishes or concerns that you may have and if it is at all possible I will do my very best to satisfy them.
